Happy New Year!

Well it is 2013!  I just can't believe how fast the years are passing me by.  I am determined to make this year one of the best years yet!  My New Years Resolutions are as follows:

1.) Blog!  Or in other words, document this years experiences and projects.
2.) Give each day a purpose.  Today's purpose has yet to be determined...
3.) Have fun!

I am hoping to create a calendar of events for the year.  I want to do something "big" with the kids each month.  I feel like we get trapped inside and sit in front of the television way to much because it is easy.  I would also like to sell our house in the near future so I am hoping that this blog will inspire me to find home improvement projects and stick with them so that I can share them with you and feel accomplished.

PROJECT ONE:

We started our first project probably a good year ago with our basement.  We had a lot of water damage and had to tear out and replace all of the walls and flooring.  We have since then completed the drywall and painting process along with the floor but that is about it!  There is still so much that needs to be done to make it look nice.  With baby #3 coming in April we are considering making the basement our bedroom so that we don't have to cram three babes in one room.  It is possible but not ideal.  We left the kids at my parents New Years Eve so that we could wake up early and start cleaning and organizing down there.

This is the "good" side of our basement (after I picked up the toys).  We are currently using it as a play room for the kids.  If you notice the trim still needs to be done around the floor and we have several ceiling tiles missing.  The floor could use a good scrubbing as well!

This is the disgusting part of our basement.  The part that we have neglected cleaning because...well I am not sure why.  The cats own this side of the basement.  My husband is pouting because I was mean and made him go through is computer parts and throw things out.  I will probably be pouting when I go through my craft supplies.  Obviously this side of the basement needs A LOT of work!  The floors need to be scrubbed several times to get the cat litter dust and smell out of the cement and the walls need to be cleaned and painted as well.  We are not replacing the drop ceiling in the laundry room or furnace room.  We feel the money can be better spent elsewhere.

I would say we did fairly well.  We threw out at least 4 construction sized garbage bags full of junk!  My husband was slightly surprised by this number but I was not.  I still plan to throw out more!  The basement has not been this clean in years!  Project #1 is off to a great start (and writing about it has made me want to get back down there)!
